About KibbleGuide

An independent Australian cat food ingredient transparency site. How we research products, why we do not score or rank brands, and how the site is funded.

Why this exists

KibbleGuide started with one of my cats. She had gone off her wet food, licking the gravy and leaving everything underneath. Nothing medical turned up, so I went looking for answers and found mostly conflicting advice about what cats should and shouldn't eat.

Around the same time I had been reading Ultra-Processed People and paying closer attention to what was in my own kitchen. I decided to read her food the same way. The label held the same kinds of additions: emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives, and ingredients that are there for shelf life and texture rather than nutrition. What struck me was how hard it was to get a clear picture of any of it.

So I built KibbleGuide to make that easier. It lays out each product's ingredients category by category alongside the full guaranteed analysis, and it flags the things that are easy to miss on a crowded label, like collective labelling, added thickeners and gums, and plant protein.

I have only included brands whose Australian formulations I can verify. Listings on overseas sites like Amazon and Chewy are often a different product altogether, so everything here is checked against Australian packaging and retailer pages.

I build and maintain KibbleGuide on my own, and treat it as an ongoing project rather than a finished one. If something is unclear, missing, or wrong, I would like to hear about it.

Who we are

KibbleGuide is an independent, privately funded research project. We have no affiliation with any pet food brand, retailer, or industry body. No brand pays to appear on kibbleguide.com.au or to influence what we show.

What we do

We research pet food labels from Australian retail shelves and surface what brands voluntarily disclose. All information is sourced from publicly available product labels and retailer listings.

Where our data comes from

Ingredient lists and nutritional information are sourced directly from product packaging photographed in-store at Australian retailers including Pet Circle and Petbarn, as well as from official brand websites. We cross-reference multiple sources where possible to verify accuracy.

What we don't do

We do not conduct nutritional analysis, laboratory testing, palatability trials, or safety assessments. Our label profiles reflect disclosure only, not whether a food is safe, nutritious, or appropriate for your cat.

How we make money

KibbleGuide plans to use affiliate links to third-party retailers once the site has enough traffic to support a monetisation partnership. When that launches, clicking an affiliate link and making a purchase may earn KibbleGuide a small commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you. Affiliate commissions will be available equally across all brands and retailers featured on the site, and will not influence what we show. No retailer or affiliate links are live on the site at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

KibbleGuide currently covers 30 brands widely available at Australian pet retailers. We're adding more brands over time. If you'd like to suggest a brand, email us at the address below.

Collective labelling uses broad terms like "Meat and Animal Derivatives" or "Cereals" instead of naming specific ingredients. This is legal in Australia, but it means the exact composition may change between batches without updating the label. Products using collective labelling are flagged in purple on our site.

No. KibbleGuide is a label analysis tool, not a substitute for veterinary guidance. Always consult your vet for advice specific to your cat's health, dietary needs, or medical conditions.

We review and update product data when manufacturers change formulations or packaging. If you spot an ingredient list that doesn't match what's on your bag, please let us know.

No. No brand pays to appear on kibbleguide.com.au or receive favourable placement. KibbleGuide plans to earn revenue through affiliate links to retailers once monetisation launches, and those commissions will be available equally across all brands.
