Background: ownership, sourcing and positioning
Addiction and Ziwi Peak offer two different approaches to the Australian cat food market. Addiction built the range around hypoallergenic formulations designed with a clinical nutritionist. Ziwi Peak uses recipes that routinely carry 96 percent meat, organs, bone and green-lipped mussel with zero grain, legume or potato content. The two brands differ in several ways beyond the one point highlighted here.
Addiction operates one of New Zealand's largest dry pet food plants and runs a sizeable contract-manufacturing business alongside its own brand. It uses genuinely unusual proteins including New Zealand brushtail possum, venison, kangaroo, salmon and eel.
Ziwi Peak is made at a purpose-built kitchen in Napier, New Zealand, which replaced its original Mount Maunganui operations in 2022, with all meat and seafood sourced within New Zealand.
