Background: ownership, sourcing and positioning
Feline Natural and NZ Natural Meow offer two different approaches to the Australian cat food market. Feline Natural kibble is made by vacuum-infusing freeze-dried liver and oils into baked pieces rather than through conventional extrusion. NZ Natural Meow sells gently freeze-dried and air-dried raw recipes fed as-is or rehydrated rather than cooked kibble. Each brand's manufacturing method is the single clearest distinction between their product ranges.
Feline Natural is made in New Zealand from 100 percent New Zealand-sourced ingredients, through manufacturing partners in Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. It was founded by Geoff Bowers, a former Royal Marine and UK police dog handler who built the concept after a sabbatical studying grey wolves in Alaska with biologist Gordon Haber.
NZ Natural Meow makes the range in small batches at its own New Zealand facility and is FernMark licensed as a genuine New Zealand-made producer. It uses New Zealand proteins including hoki, wild venison and brushtail possum alongside lamb, beef, chicken and king salmon.
